The Chemistry issue of TeacherPlus magazine arrived, adorned with my brightly coloured cover illustration!
I decided to do a speedy-ish Seven Years in Tibet front cover to test some different brushes and new textures I’ve accumulated. Pretty gentle image, as they go, but the pace of the book is pleasantly languid. Lots of nice reference images of Heinrich Harrer and Peter Aufenschnaiter to work from, too.
Cover and spot illustrations for Cambridge Science Festival’s programme and other promotional materials.
A little segment of the cover for the Science Festival (pending another round of critique and approval, but hey, that’s my job). Fingers crossed for this. After a month of work, this is a two-day redesign!
For those Tumblr peeps who are not also my twitter peeps (if not, I’m @timmy_parker), a quick update to say I won the Puffin Children’s Prize at the Penguin Design Awards! Very exciting, I get to go and work at Penguin & Puffin for a month later in the year (though hopefully much longer if I get on well - dream job!)
A great part of the award was professional feedback from the lovely AD Anna Bilson, to give us the opportunity to change the work and make it more professional and saleable. It was great being treated as an illustrator as opposed to a student illustrator, and get full critique. Harsh but fair, just how I like it.
It’s a total dream, everyone was super lovely, and there were some wonderful covers there. I met a lot of great illustrators and the design team I’ll be working with who are incredible.
It’s a very nice feeling.
I hadn’t blogged this before, but I’m in the 13-strong shortlist for the Puffin Cover Design Competition for Grimm’s Fairy Tales. Exciting! I’ve had through my feedback on what to alter, but if you guys want to put your tuppence in, feel free!
